Terms & Conditions
These terms explain how our custom music arrangement, backing track and digital audio production services are requested, agreed, produced and delivered.
These Terms & Conditions apply to the use of sumofpartspublishing.media and to custom music production services supplied by SUM OF PARTS PUBLISHING LTD.
Our services are made to order. Customers provide their musical ideas, source materials and production requirements. We use the agreed brief to create the specified arrangement, backing track or other digital audio production.
Please read these terms before confirming a project. The specific project description, deliverables, price, revision allowance and expected delivery timescale agreed with you form part of the arrangement between us.

Scope of Music Production Services
We provide made-to-order music arrangement, backing track creation and related digital audio production services. The work is based on the musical ideas, source material and requirements supplied by the customer.
Depending on the project agreed, our services may include:
- Custom Music Arrangements: developing a musical arrangement from a melody, demo, composition or other agreed source material.
- Custom Backing Tracks: creating an instrumental backing track based on the customer’s requirements, musical direction and agreed brief.
- Song Arrangement Development: shaping the structure, instrumentation and musical parts of a supplied song or musical idea.
- Instrumental Production: producing instrumental audio content according to the agreed musical style and project requirements.
- Music Style Adaptation: adapting an arrangement or musical idea towards an agreed stylistic direction, subject to the rights in the source material.
- Bespoke Music Production: creating a tailored music production to the agreed creative brief, scope and deliverable specification.
The exact work included in a project will be determined by the written project confirmation. A service title or general website description does not, by itself, mean that every possible production task is included.
Important: We provide the specific music production work and digital audio deliverables agreed for each project. We do not automatically include live performance, music distribution, promotional campaigns, publishing administration or other services unless expressly agreed in writing.
Project Enquiries and Contract Confirmation
Customers may contact us through the website enquiry form, email or telephone to describe a proposed music production project.
An enquiry is a request for information and does not automatically create a confirmed production order. We may need to review the brief and source materials before confirming whether the requested work can be undertaken.
Before accepting a project, we will establish the relevant details, which may include:
- The type of music production requested.
- The customer’s musical idea and intended direction.
- The source materials available for the project.
- The agreed production scope and expected deliverables.
- The project price and any applicable additional charges.
- The expected production and delivery timescale.
- The agreed revision allowance.
- Any relevant file format or delivery requirements.
A project will be treated as confirmed when the material terms have been agreed by both parties in writing and any applicable start conditions have been satisfied.
We may decline a request where it falls outside our services, cannot reasonably be completed, depends on materials the customer is not authorised to use, or raises legal, technical or practical concerns.
If the customer requests a change after confirmation, the change may affect the price, production scope or delivery timescale. We will explain any proposed adjustment before proceeding.
Prices and Project Fees
Any prices displayed on our website are starting prices and should be read alongside the scope stated for the relevant service.
The final project fee will depend on the work agreed. Relevant factors may include:
- The length and complexity of the musical material.
- The number and nature of musical parts required.
- The amount of arrangement or production work involved.
- The condition and completeness of the supplied source material.
- The agreed output and file requirements.
- Any additional work requested beyond the original brief.
We will confirm the applicable price before the project is accepted. The agreed price will identify the work included and any relevant exclusions or additional charges.
Work outside the confirmed scope will not be treated as automatically included. If additional work is requested or becomes necessary because the brief materially changes, we will explain the proposed additional cost and obtain your agreement before undertaking that work.
Any applicable VAT treatment will be stated in the price information or project confirmation where relevant. No assumption should be made that VAT is included or excluded unless this is clearly indicated.
Where a deposit, advance payment or staged payment arrangement applies, the amount and timing will be communicated before the project is confirmed.
Your Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for providing the information and materials reasonably required for the agreed project. This helps us understand the intended result and carry out the work against a clear brief.
Depending on the project, you may need to provide:
- A clear description of the musical idea and intended outcome.
- Melodies, demos, recordings, lyrics or other source material.
- Reference tracks or descriptions of the desired musical style.
- Relevant details about tempo, key, structure or instrumentation, where known.
- The intended use of the finished audio, where relevant to the brief.
- Any required permissions or information concerning third-party material.
- Timely feedback where review or approval is required.
You should ensure that the information you provide is accurate and that the materials are sufficiently clear for the agreed work to be undertaken.
If information or source materials are incomplete, unclear or supplied late, this may affect the production schedule. We will contact you where clarification or further material is reasonably required.
You are responsible for reviewing the agreed brief and notifying us promptly if any important requirement has been misunderstood before production proceeds.
Production Process and Timescales
Once the project scope has been agreed and the required start conditions have been met, we will begin the production work in accordance with the confirmed brief.
The process will generally involve the following stages:
- Project review: we review the customer’s requirements and the available musical source materials.
- Scope confirmation: the production work, deliverables, price, revision allowance and expected timescale are confirmed.
- Production: we carry out the agreed arrangement or audio production work.
- Customer review: where included in the project, the customer reviews the supplied version and provides feedback within the agreed review period.
- Finalisation and delivery: we complete the agreed work and provide the specified digital audio deliverables.
The expected delivery period will be communicated during project confirmation. It may depend on the complexity of the work, the quality and completeness of the source materials, the production scope and the timing of customer feedback.
A delivery estimate is based on the information available when the project is confirmed. If a delay becomes likely, we will notify you and provide an updated estimate.
Where progress depends on information, materials, approvals or feedback from the customer, the project schedule may need to be adjusted accordingly.
Customer-Supplied Music and Materials
Customers may provide original or third-party materials for use in the agreed production project. These may include:
- Original melodies and musical compositions.
- Song demos and existing recordings.
- Lyrics and written musical ideas.
- Instrumental or vocal recordings.
- Audio references and examples of musical styles.
- Written production briefs and project notes.
You confirm that you own the relevant rights or have obtained the permissions necessary to provide the materials to us and authorise their use for the agreed project.
You must not submit material that you are not entitled to use, reproduce, adapt or authorise for the intended production work.
If a project involves third-party recordings, samples, compositions, lyrics or other protected material, you are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for the intended use, unless a separate written agreement expressly states otherwise.
We may ask for clarification or decline to use material where there is a reasonable concern about its source, ownership or permitted use.
We will use customer-supplied materials only as reasonably necessary to assess, produce, revise and deliver the agreed project, subject to these terms and our Privacy Policy.
Intellectual Property Rights
Customer’s original materials
The customer retains ownership of the rights they already hold in their original compositions, melodies, lyrics, recordings, demos and other materials supplied for the project.
By providing these materials, the customer grants us permission to access, reproduce, edit, adapt and use them only to the extent reasonably necessary to carry out the agreed production work.
Our pre-existing materials
Any pre-existing production methods, templates, arrangements, tools, techniques, software workflows and other materials owned or controlled by us before a project remain our property, unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.
Newly created production work
The ownership and permitted use of newly created arrangements, backing tracks, recordings and other production elements will be determined by the written project agreement.
A project confirmation should identify, where relevant, whether the customer receives an assignment of rights, a licence to use the deliverable, or another agreed form of permission. It should also identify any restrictions, credit requirements or permitted uses.
Payment alone should not be interpreted as transferring every copyright or other intellectual property right unless an applicable written agreement expressly provides for that transfer.
Third-party rights
Third-party samples, recordings, compositions, performances and other protected content remain subject to the rights of their respective owners. Any required third-party permissions must be obtained before the relevant material is used in a way that requires authorisation.
Portfolio and promotional use
We will not assume that a customer’s unpublished project, name, recording or finished production may be used in our portfolio or promotional materials merely because we created it. Any such use requires an appropriate separate permission or agreement.
Digital Audio Deliverables and File Delivery
Our agreed production deliverables are supplied digitally. The exact files to be provided will be identified in the project confirmation.
Depending on the agreed project, deliverables may include a completed music arrangement, backing track, instrumental production or another specified digital audio file.
The project confirmation should identify the applicable audio format and any other agreed technical requirements. We do not automatically include every possible audio format, separate instrument track, stem, multitrack session, editable project file or production source file.
Delivery will normally be made through an agreed digital method, such as an email attachment or download link, depending on file size and technical suitability.
You are responsible for providing a valid email address and ensuring that you can access and download the delivered files.
You should check the delivered files within a reasonable period and notify us if a file is corrupted, inaccessible or materially different from the agreed deliverable.
If a download link is used, any expiry period or access limitation will be communicated where applicable. Customers should download and securely store their delivered files.
We do not undertake indefinite storage or permanent hosting of completed project files unless this is expressly agreed in writing.
Revisions and Additional Work
The revision allowance for each project will be stated in the service description or project confirmation.
Where the agreed service includes one revision, the customer may submit one consolidated set of feedback relating to the supplied production and its conformity with the original brief.
Revision requests should be clear and specific. They should identify the relevant section of the production and explain the requested adjustment.
A revision is intended to refine the agreed work. It does not automatically include a substantially different musical direction or a new production brief.
Work that may fall outside the included revision allowance includes:
- A change to the original musical concept or style after production has begun.
- Replacing or substantially changing the source material.
- Adding new sections, instruments or deliverables not included in the original scope.
- Rebuilding a production because the customer’s requirements have materially changed.
- Requests for additional file formats or separate audio components not originally agreed.
- Further revision rounds beyond the stated allowance.
If additional work is requested, we will explain the proposed scope, any extra fee and the likely effect on the delivery date before proceeding. Additional work will only be undertaken after the customer has agreed to the revised arrangement.
If a delivered item does not conform to the agreed project specification, this should be raised with us and will be considered separately from a request to change the original creative brief.
Cancellations and Refunds
If you wish to cancel a project, please contact us in writing as soon as possible, identifying the project and the reason for the request.
The treatment of a cancellation will depend on the stage of the project, the work already completed, any agreed start arrangements and the statutory rights applicable to the customer.
Before production begins
Where a project is cancelled before production has started, we will consider the payments received and refund any amount that is due under the applicable agreement and law.
After production has started
Where work has already begun, the amount payable may take account of work properly completed up to the effective cancellation date, subject to the customer’s statutory rights and the terms applicable to the contract.
We will not impose an arbitrary cancellation charge or retain amounts that we are not legally entitled to retain.
Completed work and digital files
Where production has been completed or digital deliverables have been supplied, the applicable refund position will depend on the contract, the nature of the service or digital content, whether the work conforms to the agreement and any statutory cancellation or consumer rights that apply.
Statutory cancellation rights
If you are a consumer and the contract is concluded at a distance or off-premises, statutory cancellation rights may apply. For qualifying service contracts, the cancellation period is generally 14 days from the date the contract is made.
If you expressly request that a service begins during the applicable cancellation period, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for the service provided before cancellation, where the law permits this.
Where a contract concerns digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, any statutory loss of the cancellation right depends on the required prior express consent, acknowledgement and confirmation being obtained. We will not assume that such a right has been lost without satisfying the applicable legal requirements.
Nothing in these terms removes or limits any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Further information is available in our Cancellation & Refund Policy .
Complaints and Project Concerns
We aim to handle project concerns fairly and professionally. If you believe that the work does not match the agreed brief or you are dissatisfied with an aspect of our service, please contact us in writing.
Please include:
- Your name and project reference, if available.
- A description of the issue.
- The relevant part of the agreed project scope.
- Any supporting information or examples.
- The outcome you would like us to consider.
We aim to acknowledge complaints within 3 working days and provide a substantive response within 15 working days after receiving sufficient information.
If a complaint requires further investigation, we will explain the reason for the delay and provide an updated response timescale.
Please also refer to our Complaints Policy for the full procedure.
Confidentiality and Privacy
We understand that customers may provide unpublished musical ideas, demos, lyrics, recordings and other commercially or creatively sensitive materials.
We will take reasonable steps to handle project information and source materials with appropriate care and limit access to what is reasonably necessary for project assessment, production, delivery and administration.
We will not knowingly publish or use unpublished customer materials for promotional purposes without an appropriate separate permission or agreement.
Customers should avoid sending passwords, payment card details or other sensitive information through ordinary project enquiry forms or email.
Personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Our use of cookies and similar technologies is explained in our Cookie Policy.
Confidentiality obligations do not prevent disclosure where required by law or by a competent authority.

Liability and Legal Responsibilities

You remain responsible for ensuring that materials supplied by you may lawfully be used for the project and for obtaining permissions that are your responsibility under these terms.
We are not responsible for delays caused by incomplete source materials, late customer feedback, changes to the agreed brief or circumstances outside our reasonable control. Where such circumstances affect delivery, we will communicate with you and take reasonable steps to address the issue.
